The materials you will need to have this silverware holder are few and easy to find. In fact, you probably already have most of them. In any case, even if crafts aren’t your specialty, making these cutlery holders won’t be too difficult.

Materials

  • kitchen wooden board
  • a big stapler
  • scissors
  • dish towels
  • Glue
  • Cloth strips in colors that match the dishcloth
use forks to decorate

Procedure for making this cutlery holder

  • First, open one of the tea towels and place it on the wooden board. What we’re going to do is cut the cloths to the size of the boards. However, you should not just cut the outline of the board. It is necessary to leave a little more cloth (a couple of fingers) on the right, left and bottom to be able to make a hem afterwards. At the top, cut under the hole in the board handle.
  • Then make a hem with the fabric that protrudes from the board and place the dish towel over the board so that it covers it. What you should do is create a kind of pocket by stapling the three ends of the hemmed cloth. To do this, staple these parts to the wood, with the exception of the top part, of course.
  • Depending on the weight of the cutlery, you will have to place more or less staples. After all, they are the ones who will support the cloth when the cutlery is placed inside the pocket. So make sure they can handle the weight.
  • Then, once the cloth is securely attached to the board and the pocket is done, you can start decorating. The objective is, above all, not to leave the staples in sight. To do this, take one of the strips of fabric you’ve chosen and glue it along the hems on the right, left, and bottom edges. You’ll get a splash of color matching the cloth and you’ll prevent the clips from showing.
  • Finally, wait for the glue to dry well and place the cutlery inside.

Of course, the ideal now is to make a beautiful wall bracket for the kitchen to be able to hang the boards by the cable, so that the cutlery is always at hand in a visible place. On the other hand, we also recommend the following guidelines to make you even more passionate about your cutlery holders:

  • Do not place cutlery holders near where there is grease or dirt that could damage them. In fact, if you leave it in a place close to where there is going to be grease, not only will the cutlery get dirty, but the cloths can also spoil.
  • Make a silverware holder for each type of silverware you have. So, the ideal is to make one for the spoons, one for the forks, one for the dessert cutlery, etc. However, it is up to you, you might prefer to put other types of original utensils in your pockets.
  • Always choose cloths that match the other colors in your kitchen.
  • In addition, the ideal is to find kitchen boards whose wood matches the other furniture and elements of the space.
  • If you have a set of dishcloths with the same pattern but in different colors, make several tablecloth holders with these different colors to add even more originality and color. Why not?
